Avro was a British aircraft manufacturer that operated from 1910 to 1963. It was founded by Alliott Verdon Roe and Humphrey Verdon Roe in Manchester and remained primarily based in Lancashire throughout its existence. Avro’s designs included notable aircraft such as the Avro 504 used as a trainer in WWI, the Avro Lancaster bomber during WWII, and the delta wing Avro Vulcan in the Cold War. In 1963, Avro was merged with Hawker Siddeley Aviation, but the Avro name has been used for some aircraft since then.
