The Boeing Company is a multinational corporation specializing in the design, manufacturing, and sales of airplanes, rotorcraft, rockets, satellites, telecommunications equipment, and missiles on a global scale. In addition, the company offers leasing and product support services. Boeing is among the largest global aerospace manufacturers and is the third-largest defense contractor in the world by revenue as of 2020. The company is also the largest exporter in the United States based on dollar value and a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Established in Seattle, Washington by William Boeing on July 15, 1916, the present-day corporation is the result of a merger between Boeing and McDonnell Douglas on August 1, 1997. The company’s corporate headquarters are located in Crystal City, Arlington, Virginia, and it is divided into four primary divisions: Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA); Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS); Boeing Global Services; and Boeing Capital. In 2021, Boeing recorded $62.3 billion in sales and is ranked 54th on the Fortune 500 list (2020) and 121st on the Fortune Global 500 list (2020).
