Cessna is an American manufacturer of general aviation aircraft, currently owned by Textron Aviation. The company was originally founded in 1927 by Clyde Cessna and Victor Roos, with headquarters located in Wichita, Kansas. Throughout much of the mid-to-late 20th century, Cessna was a highly diverse and productive producer of general aviation aircraft, including small piston-powered aircraft and business jets. Following its acquisition by Textron, Inc. in 1992, Cessna became part of the Textron Aviation subsidiary company. In March 2014, Cessna was restructured and became a brand of Textron Aviation alongside Beechcraft and Hawker Aircraft corporations. Cessna is most well known for its high-wing, small piston aircraft, including the popular Cessna 172 model. The company also produces the Citation family of low-wing business jets in varying sizes, which first became available in 1972.
