Ford Motor Company is an automobile manufacturer headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, United States. It was founded by Henry Ford in 1903 and sells automobiles and commercial vehicles under the Ford brand, as well as luxury cars under its Lincoln brand. In addition to its own brands, Ford also owns Brazilian SUV manufacturer Troller and has stakes in Aston Martin of the United Kingdom and China’s Jiangling Motors. It has joint ventures in China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey. Ford is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and is controlled by the Ford family, who hold minority ownership but the majority of the voting power.
Ford is known for introducing large-scale manufacturing methods and managing industrial workforces with engineering sequences like moving assembly lines. Previously, Ford owned UK subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover, as well as the Swedish automaker Volvo. In 2011, Ford discontinued the Mercury brand.
As the second-largest U.S.-based automaker and fifth-largest in the world based on 2021 vehicle production, Ford continues to produce automobiles, luxury vehicles, commercial vehicles, automotive parts, pickup trucks, and SUVs. The company offers automotive finance, vehicle leasing, and vehicle service through its Ford Blue, Ford Credit, Ford Drive, Ford Model E, and Ford Pro brands. As of 2020, Ford had approximately 186,000 employees worldwide and generated over US$158.0 billion in revenue.
