Isuzu Motors Ltd. is a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer that specializes in the production, marketing, and sales of Isuzu commercial vehicles and diesel engines. Founded on March 30th, 1934 under a different name, the company is headquartered in Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Japan. Isuzu has subsidiaries and joint ventures in various countries, including Turkey, Russia, India, China, the United Kingdom, South Africa, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Malaysia. The company has assembly and manufacturing plants in Fujisawa, Tochigi, and Hokkaidō prefectures. Isuzu-branded vehicles are sold in commercial markets worldwide, with a primary focus on commercial diesel-powered trucks, buses, and construction. Isuzu diesel engines are commonly used by several vehicle manufacturers, including General Motors. The name Isuzu comes from the Isuzu River, with the kanji (五十鈴) meaning “fifty bells”.
