Mooney International Corporation is an aircraft manufacturer based in Kerrville, Texas, United States. The company specializes in producing single-engined piston-powered general aviation aircraft. Mooney International has had a history of multiple American owners and bankruptcies. In 2013, the company was purchased by the Meijing Group, a Chinese private equity and real estate development company, until 2020 when it was acquired by a group of Mooney aircraft owners under US Financial, LLC of Wyoming.
Some of Mooney’s notable achievements include producing the first pressurized single-engined, piston-powered aircraft, the M22 Mustang, manufacturing the fastest civilian single-engine piston-powered aircraft in the world, the M20TN Acclaim Type S, and producing the fastest transcontinental flight in a single-engine piston-powered production aircraft, the M20K 231. Additionally, many Mooney aircraft are recognized for their signature vertical stabilizer design.
The company was founded in 1929 by Albert Mooney and his brother Arthur. The Mooney Aircraft Corporation went bankrupt in 1930 due to financial difficulties during the Great Depression. The Mooney brothers went on to work for other aircraft companies before eventually returning to their own in the 1940s.
