Piaggio & C. SpA is an Italian motor vehicle company that produces a range of two-wheeled motor vehicles and compact commercial vehicles under various brands, including Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi, and Scarabeo. The company was founded by Rinaldo Piaggio in 1884, initially producing locomotives and railway carriages. Today, the company is headquartered in Pontedera, Italy, and operates in over 50 countries. Piaggio’s subsidiaries employ thousands of employees and produced hundreds of thousands of vehicles in 2019.

In its early years, Piaggio produced various types of vehicles for the military sector, including aeroplanes and seaplanes. In the late 1930s, Piaggio achieved numerous world records with its aircraft and engines, culminating in the four-engine Piaggio P.108 bomber. After the Second World War, the company diversified its activities beyond the aeronautical industry to address a perceived need for a modern, affordable mode of transport for the Italian mass market. Today, Piaggio continues to be a major player in the motor vehicle industry, constantly innovating and expanding its range of products.
