Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. is an aerospace manufacturer headquartered in Stans, Switzerland that specializes in producing fixed-wing aircraft. As of June 2016, the company had 1,905 employees. Pilatus is known for creating short takeoff and landing aircraft, military training planes, and niche market planes. The company’s first notable success was producing the EKW C-35 reconnaissance biplane for the Swiss Air Force in 1940. Pilatus continued to develop military training aircraft such as the PC-7 Turbo Trainer and in 1979, the company acquired Britten-Norman. Pilatus later expanded into the civilian market with the introduction of the single-engine turboprop aircraft, the PC-12, in the 1990s. The company has delivered over 1,800 PC-12 as of April 2021. Pilatus expanded its military training aircraft line with the introduction of the turboprop-powered PC-21 in the 2000s and its twin-engined STOL jet aircraft, the PC-24, in the 2010s.
