The Polikarpov Design Bureau was a Soviet OKB specializing in aircraft design, and was founded and led by Nikolai Nikolaevich Polikarpov. The Dux Factory was acquired by the USSR and became a part of Polikarpov. After Polikarpov’s death in 1944, his OKB was absorbed into Lavochkin, with some of its engineers going to Mikoyan-Gurevich, and its production facilities going to Sukhoi. Many of the Polikarpov OKB headquarters were located at the Aircraft Plant #1 in Moscow, where its purpose-built building still stands.
Polikarpov Design Bureau created many aircraft designs in various categories including bombers, fighters, ground attack, and reconnaissance aircraft, as well as airliners and transport planes. Notable designs included the I-16 fighter, the I-153 and I-15 Chaika biplane fighters, and the R-1 unlicensed copy of the British Airco DH.9A bomber, among many others.
