Stewart & Stevenson is a privately held company that provides a range of products and services for industries including oil and gas, marine, construction, power generation, transportation, mining, and agriculture. The company was founded in 1902 in Houston, Texas by C. Jim Stewart and Joseph R. Stevenson as a blacksmith and carriage shop. As the automobile became more prevalent, the company shifted its focus to automobile repair and customization. In 1923, the company became a GMC truck distributor and began building truck body variants. Stewart & Stevenson has since expanded its product line to include aircraft ground support equipment, oilfield service units, gas-turbine powered engines, and transit buses. In addition, the company operates a Thermo King division, and is a dealer for industrial forklifts and John Deere equipment.
