Velocity, Inc. is an American company that specializes in the manufacturing of kit aircraft. It was founded in 1984 by Danny Maher who marketed a four-seat homebuilt aircraft modeled after the Long-EZ design. The company was sold to Scott and Duane Swing in 1992. Throughout the years, Velocity has developed and modified their planes, including the introduction of the “173” model with a longer wing and airfoil modifications to prevent deep stalls. In 2008, the company received attention for a power failure and subsequent crash during initial testing. Velocity was also involved in the Rocket Racing League, and the Racing Rocket Racing Composite Corporation acquired the company in 2008 but ownership was later bought back by the Swings in 2010. The company’s website is www.velocityaircraft.com.
